Storage King Moorebank - Incident information

Dear Customer,

The latest update for Storage King Moorebank is that the risk reduction work will continue today. The contractor has told us they anticipate it could be completed as early as today, if not in coming days.

While the owner’s preliminary engineering report concluded that the building is structurally unsafe and recommended demolition as the most appropriate course of action, we have asked them to hold off on any further works once the risk reduction work is complete, while we continue to consult with engineers on potential next steps.

We would reiterate our message that we don’t want to raise false hope, and that demolition without the ability to recover any stored goods may be the only safe way to proceed. However please be assured that we are continuing to thoroughly investigate all possible options.

In the meantime, for those people wanting to access Assure, our free and confidential wellbeing support service, please be aware that if you call them directly on 1800 808 374, you simply need to say that you are a customer of Storage King Moorebank. However, if you are accessing their services online, you will need to quote the code, which is STO3086.

Our dedicated Customer Care Team, available 9am-7pm weekdays and 9am-4pm weekends is contactable on 1800 888 200.  As always, we will continue to provide updates as we receive any new, verified information.

Sincerely,

Storage King

Dear Customer,

We wanted to provide you with a further update on the Moorebank facility.

Risk Reduction Works

Risk reduction works are continuing on site. These works are focused on safely removing unstable structural materials and debris to reduce immediate safety hazards.

We expect these works to be completed before the end of the week. By that time, we also expect to be in receipt of the final structural engineers' reports, which will enable us to determine the next steps for the site.

As a reminder, while these works are ongoing, there is no access to the facility for either customers or Storage King team members. We have also increased security at the site to help ensure the safety of people and belongings while these works continue. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to prioritise the safety of everyone involved.

Refund Update

We have now processed all Ezidebit refunds relating to June storage fees and any prepaid rental amounts. If your payment was made via Ezidebit, you should see the funds returned to your nominated account over the next few business days, depending on your financial institution.

For any customers where we require additional information to process their refund, our team will be reaching out again tomorrow to obtain the outstanding details.

If you have any questions regarding your refund or require further assistance, please contact our Customer Care Team on 1800 888 200 or email moorebank@storageking.com.au

Thank you again for your patience, understanding and support. We remain committed to keeping you informed and will continue to provide updates as soon as we receive any new, verified information.

Sincerely,

Storage King

Customer Update (Units 1001-4179)

Storage King Moorebank – Site Safety and Risk Reduction Works Update

Dear Valued Customer,

Some customers have requested a copy of the main building floor plan to help understand where their storage unit is located.

If you would like to view the unit layouts and numbering for all levels, please use the link below:

Main Building Floor Plan

Please note that Level 3 unit numbers appear on the floor plan without the "3" prefix. If your Customer Agreement shows a unit number beginning with "3", simply remove that first digit to locate your unit on the plan.

It is important to stress that we are unable to add any information to these plans regarding the current condition of individual storage units or their contents, which some customers have asked for. At this stage, it is simply not possible to make any assessment of individual units because the building has been assessed as structurally unsafe and remains within an exclusion zone to protect against the risk of a partial or full structural collapse.

No one has entered the building since it was handed back by Fire and Rescue NSW. Put simply, we can only see what is visible from outside the building and therefore cannot provide any assessment of the extent of damage caused by fire, smoke, water or structural collapse within individual storage units.

We recognise this continues to be an incredibly difficult and uncertain time for many of our customers. If you or your family would benefit from confidential wellbeing support, our complimentary wellbeing provider, Assure, is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can contact Assure on 1800 808 374 to arrange telephone, video or face-to-face support with an experienced health professional.

We remain committed to providing regular updates and will continue to communicate with you as verified information becomes available.

If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact our dedicated Customer Care Team on 1800 888 200

Kind regards,
Storage King

Dear Customer,

We wanted to provide you with an update on the works currently underway at the Moorebank facility and explain why these activities are necessary.

A preliminary structural assessment has been completed by the engineers engaged by the building owner. The preliminary report has formally classified the building as structurally unsafe, and this determines how the site can be accessed. Most relevantly, it means that an 'Exclusion Zone' is established, and any activities conducted within the exclusion zone are strictly controlled, as this is the most dangerous area if a collapse were to occur. These controls include the demolition contractors, who are not permitted to leave their reinforced excavator cabins while operating within that area.

The contractors are currently removing sections of the fire-impacted building and associated debris. This work is focused solely on risk reduction — reducing immediate structural hazards and the risk of falling materials.

In some areas, personal belongings are mixed in with the rubble as a result of the collapse. Unfortunately, anything that is in the debris field cannot be safely accessed or salvaged. The rubble contains sharp and unstable structural materials, twisted steel reinforcement and broken concrete, and potentially toxic dust, unknown liquids or other substances released during the fire. All of this material is mixed together and cannot be separated by hand.

We understand how distressing this is. We are awaiting further engineering reports around what may or may not be feasible in terms of recovery of goods. We do not want to offer false hope, but please know that we are continuing to investigate options based on independent expert advice.

We also recognise that this continues to be an incredibly difficult time for many of our customers.

If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact our dedicated Customer Care Team on 1800 888 200.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Storage King

Dear customer,

We recognise that this continues to be a difficult and uncertain time for our customers, and we appreciate your patience as recovery efforts continue.

As advised previously, you will have received, or will shortly receive, an email confirming the refund of your last month's storage fees and any storage fees you had paid in advance from 24 June 2026 onwards.

Risk reduction works at the site remain ongoing. These works are necessary for public safety and to allow engineers and specialist contractors to safely access and assess the site.

We are currently awaiting the engineers' assessment reports, which will provide important information about the condition of the building and help determine the next steps. Until these assessments are complete, we are unfortunately unable to provide unit-specific updates.

We recognise this continues to be an incredibly difficult and emotional time for many of our customers. If you or your family would benefit from confidential wellbeing support, our complimentary wellbeing provider, Assure, is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can contact Assure on 1800 808 374 to arrange telephone, video or face-to-face support with an experienced health professional.

If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact our dedicated Customer Care Team on 1800 888 200.

We remain committed to keeping you informed and will provide further updates as soon as additional information becomes available.

Sincerely,
Storage King

Customer Update (Units 1001-4179)

Dear Customer,

We wanted to provide you with an update on the ongoing recovery and remediation works at the Moorebank facility.

Our primary focus remains the safety of everyone involved in the recovery effort, while also working to recover and protect customer property wherever it is safe and practical to do so.

As part of the remediation works, materials are being removed from the site to reduce risk and enable engineers and specialist contractors to safely access and assess the area. The majority of the material being removed consists of damaged building materials and structural debris resulting from the fire, together with damage caused during the emergency response by Fire and Rescue NSW as they did what was needed to extinguish the fire.

We understand many customers are concerned about their belongings, and we want to reassure you that where customer property can be safely accessed and salvaged, the team on site have been tasked to make every effort to do so. However, safety will always remain the highest priority. Unfortunately, in some areas the extent and volume of the structural damage and debris presents significant safety hazards, which does not allow for safe recovery of items.

To provide greater visibility of current site conditions, we have attached photographs showing the works being undertaken. As the images show, the debris field is extensive and includes hazards such as twisted and razor-sharp metal cladding, exposed reinforcement bars, and unstable concrete rubble that could shift or collapse without warning. We share these details because we want to be transparent with you on the condition of the site. These hazardous conditions are influencing both the pace of the cleanup efforts and the ability to safely access some visible customer property within the affected area.

Our CEO, Nikki Lawson, has also recorded a short video update for customers, which you can view here:

CEO Message

Customer Update (Units 1001-4179)

Dear Customer,

We would like to provide a further update on the ongoing works at the Moorebank facility.

As advised last night, essential risk reduction works are now underway and are expected to take approximately 3–5 days, subject to ongoing engineering assessments. During this time, customers may see heavy machinery operating on site as contractors remove unstable materials and address immediate safety risks. Access to the fire-impacted building remains prohibited while engineers continue their assessment of the structure.

Storage King CEO Nikki Lawson has reiterated her personal commitment to doing everything possible for customers in this video message:

If you require assistance or have any questions, our dedicated Customer Care Hotline remains available on 1800 888 200, from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

We also recognise that this situation continues to be extremely difficult for many customers. You can contact Assure on 1800 808 374 to arrange telephone, video or face-to-face support with an experienced health professional.

Customer Update (Units 1001-4179)

Dear Customer,

We want to provide you with an update on the ongoing assessment of the Moorebank facility and the work now underway on site.

Additional structural engineers have been engaged to complete a further detailed assessment of the integrity of the building. While their assessment is still in progress, they have advised the property owner that immediate risk reduction works must commence.

These works will begin tomorrow and are necessary to reduce immediate safety risks and allow the assessment process to continue safely.

The works are expected to include, but are not limited to:

  • Mitigating the risk of flying debris in the interests of public safety.
  • Removing loose metal cladding from the northern, southern and western elevations of the building.
  • Removing debris from around the building perimeter, including loose metal sheeting.
  • Removing the unstable roof structure from the north-west corner of the building.
  • Undertaking any additional risk reduction works identified by structural engineers during the process.

We would stress that no decision has been made about demolition. The priority right now is to make the site as safe as possible for the people who need to be on site and for the community.

Customers may notice heavy machinery operating on site while these works are undertaken. This equipment is required to safely remove unstable sections of the building and reduce ongoing risks to neighbouring properties, road users and workers on site.

We understand how important your stored belongings are and appreciate how distressing it is to see the condition of the site. We have formally requested that, wherever there is an opportunity to safely salvage items found amongst the loose debris during these works, those items are carefully set aside so they can be identified and, where possible, returned to their owners.

Please understand that the safety of everyone involved remains the highest priority. Any recovery of items will only occur where it is safe to do so and where it does not interfere with the advice of structural engineers or other specialists involved in the recovery.

We recognise that this continues to be an incredibly difficult time for many of our customers. If you or your family would benefit from confidential wellbeing support, our complimentary wellbeing provider, Assure, is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can contact Assure on 1800 808 374 to arrange telephone, video or face-to-face support with an experienced health professional.

We will continue to share updates as soon as new information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
Storage King

Customer Update (Units 0001-0072)

We are pleased to let you know that access to your storage unit has now been restored.

Following inspections and safety assessments, the Newbridge Road section of the Moorebank facility (Units 0001–0072) has been declared safe for customer access and is now open.

We appreciate that this has been an incredibly difficult and uncertain time, and we sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding while emergency services responded to the incident and the necessary safety assessments were completed.

As previously advised, Fire & Rescue NSW indicated that this section of the facility was not directly impacted by the fire. We are pleased to now welcome you back to your storage unit.

Billing for your unit was paused while access was unavailable. Any applicable account adjustments or credits for this period will be applied automatically, and no action is required from you.

Please note that other areas of the Moorebank facility remain closed while recovery activities and assessments continue. We ask that customers only access the Newbridge Road section and follow any signage or directions provided by our team during their visit.

If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact our dedicated Customer Care Team on 1800 888 200.

Thank you again for your patience, understanding and support throughout this incident.

We look forward to welcoming you back.

Sincerely,
Storage King

Customer Update (Units 1001-4179)

As a reminder of our previous communications, the Moorebank site has now been handed back to the Storage King owner. At this time, access is only being granted to customers in a separate building that has been deemed safe (units 0001–0072). For clarity – these are the “drive up” units accessed from Newbridge Road. Customers in those units will be receiving a separate communication letting them know they can now access their units.  Access to the fire-impacted main building remains restricted for both customers and employees.

We appreciate how important your stored items are and want to reassure you that no property has been removed from the site. Once the structural engineer has assessed the property, we will be able to seek clear guidance on if and how items can be safely returned.

Additional photos of the incident are available below. Please be aware that some images may be distressing, and we encourage you to view them with care.

We know how upsetting this situation continues to be, and we are here to support you. We will keep you informed as further updates become available.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding during this incredibly difficult time.

Sincerely,
Storage King

As outlined in our previous communication, NSW Fire and Rescue have now concluded their work, and the site has been returned to the Storage King owner. The building is currently unstable and requires further assessment, with a structural engineer scheduled early next week. In the meantime, access remains restricted, with 24-hour security in place.

At this stage, there are no new developments, and both the update shared this morning and the information above remain current. We will continue to keep you informed and will provide a further update tomorrow morning.

We recognise how challenging this has been and truly appreciate your patience as we continue working through this situation.

Sincerely,
Storage King

Dear Customers,

We wanted to provide you with an update on the Moorebank facility.

NSW Fire and Rescue safely concluded their work on site yesterday evening, and the facility has now been handed back to the Storage King owner.

NSW Fire and Rescue advice has identified that the building is currently unstable, and as a result, further comprehensive structural assessments have been recommended. Known hazards on site include dust, potential chemical exposure, sharp edges, holes in flooring and areas of loose roofing. A structural engineer is scheduled to attend early next week to carry out these assessments and determine the overall condition of the facility.

In the meantime, access to the site remains restricted for both customers and employees while these safety assessments are undertaken. Please be assured that 24-hour security is in place at the facility to protect the site.

Once assessments have been completed, we will have a clearer understanding of the next steps and will keep you informed as more information becomes available.

We truly appreciate your patience and will continue to support you as we work through the next stages.

Sincerely,

Storage King

Further to yesterday’s report, we can confirm that NSW Fire and Rescue remain in control of the Moorebank facility. Their crews continue to remove sections of the structure solely to access and fully extinguish the remaining spotfires inside. All activity on site is strictly focused on fire suppression and ensuring the area is safe.

We will continue to provide updates as soon as new information becomes available.

Dear Customers,

We are writing to provide a further update.

NSW Fire and Rescue crews have worked tirelessly over the past two days to contain the fire. As part of these efforts, a significant portion of the exterior of the main building had to be dismantled to effectively combat the fire.

This afternoon, Fire and Rescue advised that dismantling of the main building will continue this evening and into the night as they continue to deal with hotspots. The site will remain under their control until they can completely extinguish the fire.

While it hasn’t yet been confirmed, there is a possibility that as a result of this extensive dismantling, along with the damage from the fire and associated hazards and instability, the building may be deemed as structurally unsound and/or unsafe for any future entry by any customers or Storage King staff. We would stress that a decision on this will be made by independent structural engineers once the fire is out. Whatever their advice, we will update you accordingly.

Access to the site remains strictly prohibited for both customers and Storage King team members.

We greatly appreciate your patience during this process and hope you understand that the site is not currently our control.

In the meantime, should you have any questions outside what we have communicated, please reach out to our dedicated hotline on 1800 888 200.

Sincerely,

Storage King

We would like to provide you with a further update regarding the incident at our facility.

Emergency services remain on site and continue to manage the situation. Fire and Rescue has advised they will retain control of the property for the next 7–10 days while they work to fully extinguish the fire and continue their safety assessments. During this time, Storage King will not have control or access to the facility and the site remains inaccessible.

We understand how difficult this uncertainty is. At this stage, we are reliant on updates from Fire and Rescue and will continue to share confirmed information with you as it becomes available.

We have linked below recent photos of the site. These images show the extent and severity of the damage across the whole main building. We are devastated by the impact this incident has had on our customers and the extent of what has been impacted.

Fire and Rescue is still actively working across the building, including removing sections of wall sheeting to fully extinguish remaining hotspots. Independent engineers will assess the structural integrity of the building once emergency services have completed their work.

We are aware that some units located away from the main building may be unaffected. Customers with these units will be contacted directly as soon as possible.

We know this is an incredibly stressful time and sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding while emergency services and investigators carry out this critical work.

We will continue to provide updates as soon as we have verified information to share.

Sincerely,

Storage King

Dear customers,

Unfortunately, progress has been slow since our last update this morning.

Whilst the fire is under control, NSW Fire and Rescue remains onsite, awaiting heavy duty equipment to safely remove wall paneling. This access will allow fire fighters to extinguish the series of spot fires that are currently unreachable.

Due to the ongoing presence of fire, access to the site remains prohibited for Storage King Employees and customers.  Once the fire is completely extinguished, an engineering report will be sought to ascertain if the building can be safely accessed. Facilitating these inspections and reports takes time, so it may be several days before we are able to confirm if an assessment of what units have been impacted by fire and smoke can be carried out.

We know the types of valued and cherished items that are stored with us. As such, we understand the extreme concern and worry that this situation must be causing you. We will make every effort to keep you informed as further information comes to light.

If you would like confidential wellbeing support services for you and your family, please reach out to our complimentary digital health and wellbeing platform: Assure. The program offers a large network of experienced health professionals that are available 24/7/365 via telephone, video, email and in-person.

Storage King Moorebank – Site Access Update

Dear Customers,

We are writing to provide a further update regarding the fire incident at Storage King Moorebank.

Today, we were briefed by NSW Fire and Rescue, who advised that thermal imaging scans indicate the fire remains active within the facility. To safely extinguish the remaining hotspot, Fire and Rescue plan to remove part of an external wall to gain access.

As a result, no customer or employee access to the site is permitted at this time. Based on the latest advice from NSW Fire and Rescue, we expect the site to remain inaccessible for at least the next 24 to 48 hours.

We understand this is a difficult and frustrating situation. Please be assured that we are working closely with emergency services and relevant authorities and will reopen the site only when it is declared safe to do so.

We are committed to keeping you informed and will continue to provide regular updates as more information becomes available.

If you require assistance or have any questions, please contact our dedicated customer hotline on 1800 888 200

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Kind regards,

Storage King Moorebank – Site Access Update

Dear Customers,

We are writing to provide an update following the fire incident at Storage King Moorebank.

Around 2pm on 24th June 2026 a fire erupted in a large customer unit at the east/west side of the facility. Fire services were quickly on the scene, and several teams fought to bring the fire under control, with the main aim being trying to prevent flames entering the main building. The blaze took several hours to bring under control, and Fire Services remain on the scene this morning to prevent flare ups. We don’t yet have access to the site so our information is limited to what emergency services are telling us and what we can see from the ground from a distance. Based on our assessment this morning and what Fire & Rescue have said publicly, it unfortunately appears that flames, smoke and water has entered the main building. Fire teams will, at some stage, review the structural integrity of the main building, which contains our customer storage spaces.

NSW Fire and Rescue has not yet handed the site back to Storage King. As a result, the facility remains closed, and customers (and Storage King employees) are unable to access the site at this time.

We understand this may be frustrating and concerning. However, customer and team member safety remains our priority, and access cannot be provided until emergency services confirm the site is safe and formally return control of the facility.

At this stage, it may be a number of days before access is available. We will continue to provide updates as soon as more information is confirmed.

For assistance, please contact our dedicated customer hotline on 1800 888 200. Our team will commence contacting customers individually this morning to discuss this horrible incident.

We will also be providing via running updates on the Moorebank Storage King website.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Storage King

We are currently responding to a significant fire incident at our Moorebank facility.

Emergency services are on site and we are working closely with them to assess the situation and ensure the safety of all customers, team members and contractors. At this stage, all persons are reported to have evacuated safely.

Access to the Moorebank facility is currently unavailable while emergency services manage the incident.

Customers who store with Storage King Moorebank and require assistance are encouraged to contact our Customer Care Team on 1800 888 200. Our team is actively recording customer enquiries and will provide updates as further information becomes available.

We understand this situation is concerning for our customers and we appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

This page will be updated as more information becomes available.

Heavy machinery is being used to safely complete the risk reduction works recommended by structural engineers.

These works are necessary to reduce immediate safety risks around the building and enable further engineering assessments to take place.

Some sections of the building have been identified by structural engineers as unstable and presenting an immediate safety risk.

Removing these damaged sections helps reduce the risk of further collapse or debris falling and allows engineers to continue assessing the building.

In some areas, personal belongings may have fallen into the debris as a result of the fire and subsequent structural collapse. Where this has occurred, the debris field contains unstable structural materials, twisted steel, broken concrete and potentially hazardous substances released during the fire. These conditions make it unsafe to manually separate or inspect the debris while the exclusion zone remains in place.

At this stage, it is not possible to safely recover or assess items within the debris field. We will continue to keep customers informed as engineering assessments progress and further information becomes available.

We appreciate this uncertainty is difficult and will continue to provide updates as further information becomes available.

We understand this is the question most customers want answered.

Due to the extent of the structural damage, engineers must first complete detailed assessments and the necessary risk reduction works before the condition of many individual storage units can be confirmed.

We appreciate this uncertainty is extremely difficult and will continue to provide updates as verified information becomes available.

The interim engineering assessment has classified the building as structurally unsafe. Until engineers determine that further access can occur safely, neither Storage King nor specialist contractors can access any storage units or their contents.

We understand customers would like definitive answers about access, their belongings and what happens next.

Throughout this incident, our communications have been based on verified information from structural engineers, specialist contractors, insurers and relevant authorities. Rather than speculate, we are committed to providing accurate information as soon as it becomes available.

Unfortunately, not at this stage.

Until engineers determine it is safe to access individual areas of the building, we are unable to inspect or photograph many storage units.

We will continue to provide customers with further information as it becomes available.

To help customers better understand the scale of the damage and the work currently being undertaken, Storage King has published photographs showing the current condition of the facility.

These photographs provide an overview of the site only and should not be interpreted as showing the condition of any individual storage unit.
